The North Hartford Promise Zone...

On April 28, 2015 the City of Hartford was awarded a Promise Zone designation by the Obama Administration

for North Hartford – a 3.11 square mile area encompassing the Clay Arsenal, Northeast and Upper Albany

neighborhoods. The initiative forms a partnership between the federal government and local leaders, to advance neighborhood revitalization and create a safe prosperous future for the community. As a Promise Zone community, the City of Hartford received the following tools to accelerate

revitalization efforts within the North Hartford Promise Zone (NHPZ), including:

  • An opportunity to engage five AmeriCorps VISTA (Volunteers in Service to America) members in the Promise Zone’s work

  • A federal liaison assigned to help designees navigate federal programs

  • Preferences for certain competitive federal grant programs and technical assistance from  participating federal agencies
